Couplings
The primary function of a coupling is to connect two shafts that turn in the same direction and on the same centreline.
Selecting a coupling will depend on a number of important factors depending on operating conditions. Factors which should be considered include:
- Horsepower
- Torque
- Angular misalignment
- Offset misalignment
- Type of driven equipment
- Rotational speed
- Shaft size
- Space
- Environment
Acorn offers a variety of couplings which are typically divided into two areas; low-torque and high torque couplings. A complete coupling consists of several components. These components are stocked and sold separately to enable customers to buy particular components individually.
Applications
Couplings are used in a wide variety of applications, where two axles meet. Low-torque couplings, for example, are used in electric motors for driving pumps. High torque couplings are typically used on the output side of gearboxes.
