O-Rings

One of the most common sealing devices, the O-Ring is used in a variety of different applications. Its original design delivers a simple yet ingenious sealing solution. The O-Ring seals through its deformation between the surfaces it is supposed to seal.

O-Rings are often used in hydraulics systems as static sealing elements. However, as they tend to extrude into the clearance already at low pressures and are thereby destroyed, an appropriate solution is to combine the O-Ring with one or two back-up rings.

Standard O-Rings are made of nitrile rubber 70º IRH*, although when necessary O-Rings of an alternate 90º hardness can be manufactured. It is, however, better to choose a 70º IRH* and combine with a back-up ring when space allows.

* ºIRH - Indicates the hardness of rubber materials (grades according to International Rubber Hardness)

At Acorn we supply a huge range of O-rings. These are available as individual O-Rings, O-Ring kits or O-Ring cord. Please contact your nearest Acorn Branch with your enquiry.
