Using a Speedi Sleeve, which is also known as an oil seal repair sleeve, is a great way to restore a worn shaft quickly and economically. This time-saving solution negates the need to repair the shaft, saving both time and money. A speedi sleeve provides a clean, smooth surface for the oil seal to seal against, keeping the lubricant in and contaminants out.

What does a speedi sleeve do?

To seal efficiently, radial shaft seals must run against a smooth round surface - the seal counterface. If the counterface becomes worn, then the seal will no longer be able to fulfil its function, which is to retain lubricant and to exclude contaminants such as solid particles, liquids and moisture.

Normally, the counterface will become grooved or scored as a contaminant particle is caught under the seal lip creating a track as the shaft rotates. As this continues, the seal will allow more particles to pass or get stuck, and seal efficiency deteriorates, eventually leading to malfunction of the component the seal is meant to protect.

The Speedi Sleeve, sometimes called a Wear Sleeve, offers an easy solution to this problem - it allows the shaft to be held in position and does not require you to specify a different seal size.

  6. Install the Seal: Once the sleeve is in place, install the seal over the newly repaired surface.
