N 14, SKF, N inch lock nut, requiring a keyway

N lock nuts are used to locate bearings onto a shaft or adapter sleeve. They have four, equally spaced slots around their circumference to accommodate a hook or impact spanner. Depending on size and series, the lock nuts are secured onto the shaft using either a W lock washer or a PL locking plate. The locking device engages a keyway in the shaft or adapter sleeve thread. N lock nuts can be reused, provided they are not damaged.
