Would you put yourself through the pain?

Simon prepares for the WCB Boxing event in aid of Cancer Research

Simon Beatson is competing in the WCB Ultra White Collar Boxing (opens new window) match to raise money for Cancer Research.

Simon, who is a total newcomer to the world of Boxing, has set himself a punishing training schedule in preparation for the event. His gruelling fitness regime consists of three 1 hour training sessions at the NI YAI MUAYTHAI kick boxing club (opens new window) on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield and includes cardio fitness, boxing drills and sparing. In addition to this, Simon has also been going to the gym at 5:30 each morning for the past four weeks and pushes himself further with heavy weight training one night a week. In his own words Simon also “does heavy bag work with the wife” and he says she has a mean punch!

Since he started training, Simon has been arriving at work with the odd black eye and bigger and blacker bruises to his ribs & torso - but are they from the sparing or the wife Simon?

When we asked Simon about his training he commented: “I’ve done a few fitness challenges in my time, such as the coast to coast cycling event from Whitehaven to Newcastle in three days, but this is by far the hardest thing I have ever done.”

I for one, am glad there are people like Simon who are prepared to go the extra mile and put themselves through pain for a good cause. I don’t feel so guilty if I can play my part by sponsoring him for a few quid. If you would like to do the same, you can sponsor Simon on his Just Giving page (opens new window)
