How do tapered bore timing pulleys work and where are they found?

Tapered bore timing pulleys are toothed wheels which interlock with the teeth of the matching timing belt to transmit power across an application.

How do tapered bore timing pulleys work?

The grooves in the pulley mesh with the teeth of the timing belt to avoid slippage. The tension of the belt, combined with the friction of the meshed grooves and teeth cause the pulley and shaft to rotate together, conveying motion.

Tapered bore timing pulleys are generally mounted in conjunction with a bushing to fit the shaft.

Where are tapered bore timing pulleys used?

Every application which uses a timing belt will also need a matching timing pulley, whether that’s pilot bored or tapered bored.
