Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings

SKF double row angular contact ball bearings are designed to accommodate combined radial and axial loads, acting in both directions. These bearings are essentially two single row angular contact ball bearings mounted back-to-back in a single unit, providing greater rigidity and high load carrying capacity in a more compact form factor compared to paired single row bearings.

What are the benefits of using SKF double row angular contact ball bearings?

Reduced axial space

SKF double row angular contact bearings are ideal for use in applications where there isn’t enough axial space to arrange two single row angular contact bearings back to back.

Tilting moments

These bearings are highly accommodating of tilting moments. This means that tilting moments will not cause damage or wear to the bearing, extending service life.

Combined loads

These bearings can accommodate radial loads, as well as axial loads in both directions. For a single row angular contact bearing to be able to support axial load in both directions, you would need to install a second bearing in a back to back configuration. This is not necessary with double row angular contact bearings as they are able to support axial load in either direction with just one bearing.

SKF Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings FAQs

What is a SKF double row angular contact ball bearing?

It is a bearing with two rows of balls arranged to function like a pair of single-row angular contact bearings in a back-to-back (DB) configuration.
This allows it to support:

  • High radial loads

  • Axial loads in both directions

  • Moderate tilting moments

In many designs, it replaces a matched pair of single-row ACBBs.

Why choose a double row ACBB instead of two single row bearings?

SKF double-row ACBBs offer:

  • A compact design (shorter axial space)

  • Simplified mounting (one bearing vs two)

  • Reduced risk of preload mismatch

  • Lower assembly cost

  • Good rigidity and axial capacity

They are ideal when space or alignment constraints make paired bearings difficult.
