Two Piece Shaft Collars

Two Piece Shaft Collars, or Split Collars as they are sometimes called, cosist of a split two-part assembly. This two part design can help reduce the labour required by facilitating quick and easy fitting and removal.

At ACORN®, we stock a wide range of two piece shaft collars in various materials, bore sizes and finishes to suit everything from light‑duty automation through to heavy industrial machinery.

What are the benefits of two-piece shaft collars?

Convenient fitting and removal

The split two-part design of this shaft collar means that no dismantling of surrounding equipment is required for fitting or removal. This reduces both labour requirements and downtime, as well as reducing the risk of worker injury.

Even distribution of clamping forces

Two-piece shaft collars use the seating torque of their screws to deliver a superior clamping force on the shaft. This is applied as a uniform distribution of force around the shaft, without causing damage.

Indefinitely adjustable

These shaft collars are easy to remove, as well as being indefinitely adjustable. This helps to save time and resources, as well as preventing damage to the shaft and surrounding equipment.

No shaft damage

Two-piece shaft collars, unlike their set screw cousins, do not cause any damage to the shaft. They are held onto the shaft with a tight clamping fit, rather than by screwing into the shaft.

Two Piece Shaft Collars FAQs

What is the difference between one piece and two piece shaft collars?

One piece collars are a single split ring that must be slid over the end of the shaft. Two piece collars split completely and can be installed without shaft end access. Two piece collars usually provide slightly higher holding power and are easier to fit or remove in existing assemblies.

When should I choose a two piece collar?

Choose a two piece collar when you cannot access the shaft end, when you want maximum holding power, or when you anticipate frequent adjustments or maintenance. They are particularly useful on assembled machinery, conveyors and retrofits.
