Clearance Adjustable Type Linear Ball Bearings

Clearance adjustable type linear ball bearings provide smooth, low‑friction linear motion with the added ability to fine‑tune internal clearance. By adjusting the bearing in its housing, you can reduce play, increase stiffness or compensate for wear, making these bearings ideal for precision applications and systems where rigidity is critical.

At ACORN®, we supply a range of clearance adjustable linear ball bearings and matching housings from leading manufacturers, in both metric and imperial sizes.

What is a clearance adjustable type linear ball bearing?

A clearance adjustable type linear ball bearing is a linear bushing designed to allow adjustment of the internal radial clearance between the balls and the shaft. This is achieved through a slotted outer ring and a matching adjustable housing, or an eccentric / clamping arrangement that slightly deforms the outer race to tighten or loosen the fit on the shaft.

Clearance adjustable linear ball bearings typically offer:

  • Smooth, low‑friction linear motion
  • Adjustable radial clearance and preload
  • Higher stiffness and reduced play when required
  • Ability to compensate for shaft or bearing wear over time
  • Compatibility with standard precision shafts

They are commonly used where positional accuracy, repeatability and rigidity are more demanding than with standard fixed‑clearance linear bushings.
