Protorque® Cogged Wedge Belts

Protorque’s cogged wedge belts are raw-edge molded belts with a deep, cogged (notched) cushion profile rather than a smooth profile. This gives greater flexibility than traditional wrapped belts, which helps when the drive uses smaller pulleys or tighter layouts.

As the UK's #1 Distributor for Protorque, we offer rapid despatch on thousands of Protorque cogged wedge belts.

When to Use Cogged Wedge Belts (vs Classical or Wrapped Belts)

  • Prefer cogged wedge belts when your setup involves:

  • Compact or space-constrained drive layouts — small pulleys, tight centre distances, or limited pulley width.

  • High load or high power transmission requirements, where classical V-belts may be undersized or require multiple belts.

  • Industrial environments — exposure to oil, heat, ozone, abrasion, or varying temperatures (common in pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, conveyors, heavy motors).

  • Frequent cycles, variable load, or high-speed drives, where belt flexibility, heat dissipation, and durability improve longevity and reliability.

  • Need to reduce number of belts (fewer belts in multi-belt drives) or use smaller belts for cost/space/power efficiency.

What are the features and benefits of PROTORQUE® cogged wedge belts?

ProTorque cogged wedge belt

Raw edge molded cog high power wedge belts

Narrow profile deeper cushion belts for more compact, higher power and heavier duty drives.

Increased power capacity compared to classical v-belts allows for space and weight saving drives, resulting in significant cost savings. Transmit the same power with fewer belts or extend drive life by switching from classical v-belts to high power wedge belts. Multi layered industrial cover fabric supports tension cords to facilitate effortless flexibility and cooler running belts. Optimum cog pattern allows for higher dynamic power transmissions and reduced bending stresses.

The precision engineered molded cog base of PROTORQUE cogged belts allow for excellent flexibility and improved heat dissipation, promoting longer service life. Pre-tensioned high strength polyester tensile members ensure low elongation, tighter length tolerances and consistent matching length when run in sets. High performance chloroprene base compound is heavily reinforced with transverse fibres, providing excellent support for tensile members permitting higher running tensions and improved ability to absorb shock loads. Static conductive with excellent oil, ozone and abrasion resistance and running temperature range between -40°C to +70°C. A complete and comprehensive range of lengths in all cross sections are directly available from UK stock.

Perfect for applications which require the highest capacities under more severe and demanding conditions.

Features include:

  • Deeper cogged profile promotes higher power over classical v belts
  • Constant length as per ISO specifications
  • Temperature operating range from -40°C to +70°C
  • Oil, heat and ozone resistant
  • Excellent abrasion and wear resistance
  • Higher coefficient of friction
  • RoHS and REACH compliant

Protorque® Cogged Wedge Belts FAQs

How do cogged wedge belts differ from standard wedge or classical V‑belts?

Compared with classical V‑belts, wedge belts (SPZ/SPA/SPB/SPC) already offer higher power capacity in less space. The cogged versions (XPZ/XPA/XPB/XPC):

  • Are more flexible for smaller pulleys
  • Reduce bending resistance and heat build‑up
  • Can improve efficiency and belt life when correctly applied

They’re often used where drives are both compact and relatively high power.

What are Protorque® cogged wedge belts?

Protorque® cogged wedge belts are high‑capacity wedge (narrow) V‑belts with moulded cogs on the inner side. The wedge profile increases power transmission in a compact drive, while the cogs improve flexibility, reduce bending losses, and help the belt run cooler.
