CASE STUDY: Biomass Plant Streamlines Fastener Management with ACORN Support
In renewable energy operations, downtime isn’t an option. Biomass plants operate in demanding environments where high temperatures, contamination, corrosion and continuous production place pressure on both machinery and maintenance teams. Even small consumables such as fasteners play a critical role in keeping operations running efficiently.
A biomass plane in Fife was regularly ordering large volumes of fasteners, but inconsistent organisation and stock control were causing delays during maintenance tasks. Recognising the issue, ACORN Sales Advisor Samantha Mackie worked closely with the customer to review their purchasing history and build a tailored stock profile based on usage and demand.
Using this information, Samantha reorganised the plant’s existing fastener stock, ensuring items were correctly stored, clearly labelled, and easy to locate. To improve long-term efficiency, ACORN also implemented a consignment stock system designed to keep fast-moving items replenished and readily available on-site.
As a result, the customer now saves approximately three hours per week in maintenance time. Engineers can quickly access the parts they need without delays, while ACORN manages stock levels to ensure critical fasteners remain available when required.
By combining practical support with proactive stock management, ACORN helped the customer improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and simplify an important part of their maintenance operation.
